Cajun Dance Party certainly don’t hang about. It only took them four gigs to get themselves a manager and by the time of their eighth show they were playing to a crowd of 600. Any suspicions about the rapid rise of the teenage five piece are natural but this debut vinyl only release is potent enough to deflate most worries. Jangly guitars and a ramshackle feel ensure 'The Next Untouchable' has a Libertines meets the Subways bounce to it, vocalist Daniel Blumberg sounding desperate as he asks “Do you really like me?”. It’s a piece of indie guitar pop that will nestle comfortably in clubs and on the radio, yet doesn’t offer that much new.

B-side Buttercups is more interesting, a marriage of a languid opening and forceful, thunderous guitars that shudder in before the pace picks up and it reaches a jaunty conclusion. It’s a slick track that showcases a good grasp of the quiet/loud dynamic and suggests that Cajun Dance Party may yet in time achieve greatness. For now they will have to settle for being good.
