Prince has released his brand new album, entitled Hit N Run, exclusively through Jay Z's streaming service Tidal.

Having put out two records in 2014, Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum with 3rdEyeGirl, the singer keeps up his prolific streak with this, his 35th album.

After a famously frosty relationship with online music, Prince explained the thinking behind his decision to work with Jay Z and his Tidal platform. He said: "After one meeting, it was obvious that Jay Z and the team he has assembled at Tidal recognise and applaud the effort that real musicians put in to their craft to achieve the very best they can at this pivotal time in the music industry."

"Tidal have honoured us with a non-restrictive arrangement that once again allows us to continue making art in the fashion we've grown accustomed to, and we're extremely grateful for their generous support."

Last week, Prince insisted that it was "a bad time for music in general" in an interview with the New York Post.
