The poetically pundit release from Frank Carter and Co is a welcomed change in direction for the former hardcore punk bandits, with their hotly anticipated debut album ‘Anthems’.

The opening track ‘She’ is a beautifully bold statement, where former Gallows vocalist Frank Carter sings about being in love and the loss that follows. It’s in the track ‘Bury My Bones’ the lyrics ‘so sick of singing about hate’ really tells the story of how frustrated he must have felt whilst with his punk predecessors.

It’s not that the songs aren’t dark or depressing at times, because they are, but it’s the development in lyrics and the uplift in musical tendencies that keep us on our toes.

Anthems is a collection of tracks that showcase Carter’s song writing skills to their greatest potential, where he’s still politically and socially aware of the current economy but now the tracks just seem more logically thought out. However it’s not just Carter’s efforts that make this album so special, it’s a joint collaboration from matured musicians who are here to make songs you can sing along with and really relate too.

It’s in such tracks as ‘Beach of Diamonds’ where you can almost feel a chill in the air. It’s with rhythmic chords and haunting beautiful lyrics, which make it a radio friendly yet dark and twisted little gem. ‘Handsome Devils Club’ celebrates being in love but without the cheesy ballad stuff. It’s here you can dance to an up- tempo drumbeat, which is most likely transcended into their live shows.

It’s an exciting time for the Brooklyn based band, where even though the album weans off in excitement towards the end, there is no denying they’re a force to be reckoned with. It’s an exciting feeling to hear development in such talented musicians and this album really is something you can feast your ears on in delight.
