I’ve never personally had the ‘Everything Everything’ bug, having seen them a few times in the past, I always walked out feeling discontented and felt like I should have got more out of their performance. Luckily though, last night at Rough Trade, things ended differently.
With an audience of 200, Rough Trade In-stores are always a lovely intimate affair, allowing people to see bands in ways they wouldn’t normally, with a different perspective. The band seemed pretty up for the gig, with good attitudes and smiles all round.
They started their set with good energy, while the head bobbers in the audience nodded along with satisfaction. The room a haze of childish ecstasy, Everything Everything settled into their first track, followed in due course with another noise powerful band orientated piece. Vocalist John Higgs then announced a track called ‘Tin’ off the new album, which set a more electronic tone to the performance, followed by hit single, ‘My KZ, Ur BF’ and then topped off with ‘Schoolin’.
Despite their short set, Everything Everything performance changed a view which had stood firm for a good year: that they can perform both live and on record fairly well. On the strength of this, the hype around them is more than deserved and solidifies their status as one of the must-see band’s as 2010 comes to an end. With an upcoming tour to follow the release of their debut record, ‘Man Alive’, they’re set to dazzle minds across the country this Autumn.
