More Motley Crue
“This is not a farewell tour, this is a comeback tour,” yells out Nikki Sixx to all the “doubting music journalists”. Unfortunately the first half of Motley Crue's big top arena show looks like four former rock gods on their way out, trying to make a fast buck before it’s too late. “Anybody know this one” says Vince, “then you must be a real fan.” Or you just like some of their dodgier back catalogue.
Fortunately the boys were just warming up, maybe even getting the obligatory hardcore fan shit out of the way before unleashing ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and really getting the Motley party going. And boy do they know how to party! There’s topless dancers gyrating in front of the crowd, dwarfs on leashes, explosions and fire everywhere. Not to mention some chick using an angle grinder without any regard to health and safety regulations on all her soft bits, showering Sixx with sparks while he freestyles on a keyboard on a spring and Theremin.
Neil may have bingo wings and Mars may stalk the stage like he’s using a zimmer frame but Tommy Lee and Nikki Sixx still look as good as ever. Sixx even baring his Hollywood smile as often as possible. Tommy chats to the audience while introducing us to “titty cam” a fantastic display of peer pressure as female audience members are chanted at until they get their tits out for the camera which is projected onto a screen. Gigwise gets involved by offering up our shoulder ride for titty cam. “Hey you in the white top, show us your titties.” Much obliged Tommy, here she is.
New song ‘Sick Love Song’ gets an airing, apparently destined for the new album to be recorded in LA when the tour is through. For an encore we’re treated to ‘Helter Skelter’ and crowd pleaser ‘Anarchy In The UK’, Neil’s helium vocals enforcing a pogoers only rule on virtually everyone on their feet. If this really is the comeback tour, then it’s clear that Motley Crue still have a lot of mileage in them. Let’s hope Sixx can keep his wayward behaviour under wraps long enough to get another album out though.
