Omitted from the Australian release of their debut album, ‘Love Train’ was once a b-side destined for infamy amongst the EP collection of an avid fan. Now that Wolfmother have decided to suck the corporate cock that is Ipod and let Apple use this song on one of those ads, it would seem that the track has gained some mainstream fans. Although released amongst the track listing on the UK version of their debut, ‘Love Train’ was not a hit back home. It is plain to see why. Their debut works akin to a concept album, take one song out and it all falls apart, add one that doesn’t work and it is like adding milk to orange juice (not good). ‘Love Train’ is very different to Wolfmother’s ususal stuff, taking on a more funky and predictable aesthetic rather than all out rock’n’roll psychadelica, so it is easy to see why that this song was not released on the album that would be released on their home soil, yet left as an extra for people who are more satisfied when they buy an album with about 13/14 songs rather than settle for a credible piece of work. ‘Love Train’ is an ok song, but will never stand up to the likes of ‘Joker and The Thief’, ‘ Minds Eye’, or even ‘Colossal’. One for the collectors or a mix tape at a party for your little bro who wants to look cool…
