The Duke Spirit - 'EX Voto EP'

Spending a summer touring the US has certainly brought character to London’s The Duke Spirit. And the 'Ex Voto EP' – produced under the stewardship of Queens Of The Stone Age’s producer Chris Goss – throbs with American rock traditions. Opener Lassoo glows with a reckless, fiery feel, A Wild Hope rings stylishly with the glee of youthful rebellion, and closing track Masca is the sort of thick, grungy platter, served with embittered-girl lyrics, that inevitably prompts Courtney Love comparisons. If this transatlantic facelift goes down well on their upcoming UK tour, then we could be looking at something big.
