The Long Blondes - 'Century'
The Long Blondes have gone disco and Kate Jackson’s knowingly corporeal vocals take on a new lease of life in their new futuristic, Human League setting. This song is absolutely rocking, and is instantly memorable even after about half a listen – it marks a huge departure from the art-rock of the first album. ‘Century’ is an entirely different sound, one of innovation and unpredictability – from the opening Casio drone to the all out rave-up that hits unexpectedly. Not only that, but this is a slab of forward thinking, cascading wizardry with beguiling vacuum-like FX and boundless rhythmic change. No hyperbole can be enough.
Released 24/03/08 on Rough Trade.
