Some women like to put things simply. Ebony Bones is one of those women. “I’m so bored now, just don’t want to, have to hear you, talk about her, what’s your problem, are you deaf boy, didn’t you hear me, her name’s driving me crazzeee,” she sings at the beginning of ‘Don’t Fart On My Heart’, spluttering each monosyllabic word out with venom. While it makes you feel slightly sorry for the poor guy who she’s telling politely not to fart on her heart, it also makes you thankful. Thankful that’s whatever has caused Ms Bones to feel like this has led her to turn to music. ‘Don’t Fart On My Heart’ is a sonic assault of epic proportions. Tribal drums echo like a stampeding tribe in the depths of the Amazon; guitars are just subtle enough to sound like guitars; and, Bones, well she’s just angry – in a very good sounding kind of way. If this is the future of pop music, then it looks like everything’s going to be ok.
