A series to wrap up a preposterous year

More about:

If you lived through 2020, you might reasonably ask the question: what the fuck was that?

It's not been a normal one, that's for sure, and the time it will take to reckon with what's happened will stretch far into the future. Let's start by looking at how we spent the weirdest year in living memory.

We collared a bunch of our favourite bands and artists and asked them questions about how they experienced the year that all of us will remember forever.

Today, Adam of Blanketman takes our quiz:

How are you, really?

Not too bad actually. There have been pretty miserable times, but right at this minute, 11:29am 18/12/2020 I am feeling OK. All things considered, as a band we have some great stuff to be excited about: we recorded our debut EP, out in March 2021, we are writing productively for whatever is going to come next and people seem to be enjoying the music we’ve already put out. So, despite the current limbo, looking forward to 2021 and what it may bring.

Did you watch Tiger King back in March?

Yeh I did, very weird. Felt like a significant moment in popular culture. I am proud to be a part of it.

What else did you binge watch?

A lot, and still going. Most recently The Queen’s Gambit and The Mandalorian. Watched a lot of Four in a Bed too.

What did you drink and eat too much of?

I think like the rest of the non-sober people of the world, we probably drank too much alcohol. I was drinking mojitos every day at one point, especially when it was really hot over summer. I consumed and still consume about a jar of olives every day, good for the mind.

Describe a joyful moment.

Going and recording our debut EP was joyous, felt great to be productive in a time when nothing is happening, was nice to feel like we were still actually in a band. Also, I adopted a cat over lockdown, it’s the first pet I’ve had since living with my parents and that was probably one of the best decisions I could have made, as that small creature has kept me going. That’s two joyful moments.

Did you take up a new hobby?

If buying scratch cards is a hobby, I’ve gotten really good at that. My bed side table is full of them, I do actually think I’m up on them too, but I’m too lazy to go and cash in any winning ones that are less than a fiver, so now there are too many and I’d feel strange going to the shop and handing over fourteen £1 winning scratch cards so now I don’t know what to do with them. I think I’m going to have to take one in at a time per week over the next few months or so.

What's the best thing you read in quarantine?

Dan (Lead guitar) has gone for The Ritual by Adam Nevill.

What's the best album you heard in quarantine?

“The Cool Greenhouse” by The Cool Greenhouse is up there and a few of us in the band have listened to that quite a bit. Repetitive riffs and very sharp lyrics. I personally really enjoyed The Strokes new album “The New Abnormal” if that is acceptable.

What did you miss the most?

GIGS.

Blanketman's debut EP National Trust arrives 19 March via PIAS.
