Lollapalooza: "Something striking or unusual"

Lollapalooza was the brainchild of Jane's Addiction frontman, Perry Farrell. The first event in 1991 took hold of America as the first alternative festival.

The first show had one stage that hosted the like of Siouxie and the Banshees and Ice-T. as the Ozzfest- style festival took off, Lollapalooza shied away moved more into the mainstream.

Situated in Chicago's Grant Park, Lollapalooza offered 2000 tickets for $35 to their e mail subscribers. These sold in 80 minutes. The festival combines art and kids activities with a cutting edge line up using artists from both sides of the Atlantic.

A percentage of the profits made from Lollapazoola goes to Parkways, an organization that helps to fund Chicago's park renovations.
