Two monoliths of pop stardom have come together, sit your Mum down because Coldplay and Beyonce have unveiled their collaborative track for Coldplay's upcoming seventh album, A Head Full Of Dreams. Listen to 'Hymn For The Weekend' below.
The track was released last night (30 November) as Radio 1's Hottest Record In The World during Annie Mac's show. The new song was accompanied by an interview with Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman.
Speaking about the song's chorus, which is going to become a cornerstone for the quartet's live show, the bassist said: "It started off being quite a different kind of vibe. Chris was wanting to write a sort of party song, and the words were 'drinks on me, drinks on me'.
"We said to him, 'Look: you can't say that, you can't get away with that.' So the whole story of the song changed – then he asked Beyoncé to sing on it and she very kindly said she would. It was amazing, she came in, she did her thing, she was unbelievably professional. I think she was in and out in five minutes."
Speaking about 'Hymn For The Weekend' a few weeks back, Chris Martin told The Wall Street Journal: "The original kernel was that I was listening to Flo Rida or something, and I thought, it’s such a shame that Coldplay could never have one of those late-night club songs, like 'Turn Down For What'. What would we call it if we had one?"

This is not the first time Coldplay and Beyonce have come together, Chris Martin performed 'Halo' with the Destiny's Child singer for the Help For Haiti appeal back in 2011.
This isn't the only collboaration the band has revealed from this new batch of songs. Chris Martin has enlisted movie star Gwyneth Paltrow whom he "consciously uncoupled" last year, provides backing vocals on their track 'Everglow'. As well as delivering an primate central video for the lead single, 'An Adventure Of A Lifetime'.
