The BBC Music Awards took place last night, where Adele dominated the winners list, and Little Mix responded to the controversy over Jade Thirlwall's Syria tweet.
A few weeks ago, when the UK parliament voted in favour of bombing Syria, Thirlwall took to Twitter on the band's account to write, "Truly saddened and ashamed by the vote tonight. So, so sorry to the innocent people of Syria."
Her sentiment was met with a huge amount of derision, with tweets such as, "Stick to singing girls. Honestly, can you point out Syria and Iraq on a map." She was also mocked by Labour MP Jamie Reed.
Thirlwall responded by saying, "Sure it's not the first time a young woman has been mocked for having political opinion. Men from my own party too. Shameful."
@kissyourtears thank you, even when men try to mock me for having musical/sports/political opinion. Don't let them belittle you! Xxjadexx

Now, speaking to Gigwise backstage at the BBC Music Awards, Thirlwall has addressed the incident. "I think pop stars should have opinions," she said. "Just because we're pop stars doesn't mean we don't have a brain. We're humans like everybody else and think certain ways."
"It doesn't make you thick if you're a pop star," added Leigh-Anne Pinnock, before Thirlwall continued, "That's quite offensive isn't it." "It's really offensive," agreed Pinnock.
Meanwhile, Adele won two of the five awards - British artist of the year and BBC live performance of the year, while Jack Garratt won BBC Introducing act, Hozier won Song of the year for 'Take Me To Church' and Taylor Swift International artist of the year.
