Beyonce has spoken out about the ongoing events in Baltimore sparked by the unexplained death of a black man, Freddie Gray, at the hands of the police - saying, "People are hurting."
Gray suffered fatal spinal injuries while in police custody last week, which prompted further anger over the ongoing use of lethal police force against black people in America.
Musicians such as Kelly Rowland, Dev Hynes, Gerard Way and Lorde took to social media to voice their support for protestors after Baltimore declared a state of emergency. Now Beyonce has added to this in the form of two Instagram posts.
The first showed this week's TIME Magazine cover, which highlights the similarities between civil rights protests of 1968 and Baltimore riots.
The second post was a photograph of a man with a monochromatic US flag draped around his shoulders, with a number of names, including Freddie Gray's, written on it. She captioned the picture: "People are hurting. Join us in supporting the NAACP to help in the cleanup efforts and to provide housing, food and supplies to those affected by the unrest in Baltimore." This was followed by a link to the NAACP's donation page.
A weeklong curfew is still in effect in Baltimore, with news recently emerging that the police van transporting Freddie Gray made a previously undisclosed stop on the way to the police station.
