Autotune has proven quite divisive over the last couple of decades, but has certainly been responsible for its fair share of hits - not least Kanye West, who this week thanked Cher for making it popular.
Cher famously used the tool to an insane degree on her 1998 hit 'Believe', giving her a worldwide No.1 smash and bringing her career back to life. Autotune gave pretty much the entirety of the track a robotic feel, and brought it to much wider public attention.
One of those who clearly took notice was Kanye West, who has used autotune heavily throughout his career (and inspiring South Park's infamous 'Gay Fish' sketch). At this week's Met Gala, Yeezy thanked the superstar:
@blanktgt She was very Gracious. We talked about our trips to Armenia.Kanye Thanked me for Autotune. They were sweet,& seemed 2 be having fun.
