Kings Of Leon and Tom Petty were apparently responsible for convincing Fleetwood Mac to play this year's Isle Of Wight festival.
According to festival booker John Giddings, Mick Fleetwood, Christine McVie, John Mcvie, Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks were only persuaded to take part after they had contacted previous bands who had headlined the event.
Speaking to the Evening Standard Giddings explained how excited he was to have the band play the festival, having asked them on numerous occasions in the past. “They are the jewel in the crown this year — getting them was a fantastic result. I'd approached them repeatedly and they hadn’t had much interest in it. But with Christine McVie rejoining the band they seem to have revitalised themselves."
Giddings explained that the band decided on the festival after hearing good reports from those who had topped the bill before. "They said they weren’t keen on playing in the open air, but they spoke to Tom Petty and the Kings of Leon who said they had a great time at the festival. They managed to convince them.”
