'Infinity' rave star Guru Josh, of the Guru Josh Project, has passed away - after being found dead in Ibiza. He was just 51-years-old.
Speaking to The Guardian, his agent Sharron Elkabas confirmed that Guru Josh (real name Paul Walden) died on Monday 28 December, with his cause of death currently unknown.
Paying tribute to Walden, DJ Fat Controller wrote on Facebook: "Not only did he make a seminal piece of dance music with 'Infinity' he also pushed the forefront of 3d visual effects with his Dr. Devious Experience.
"I used Josh's Chiswick studio for "Doina De Jale" before teaming up with his studio manager Dave "Flippin Mental" Evans on the Kreative Force project... I had the pleasure of working alongside him with the Dr. Devious Christmas Show at the infamous Sanctuary back in 94 and can only say that he truly lived up to the great quote from Lemmy who also has just passed away 'If you're going to be a fucking rock star, go be one! People don't want to see the guy next door on stage, they want to see a being from another planet. You want to see somebody you'd never meet in ordinary life'."
He added: "Those words suit Josh more than anything else anyone could write. RIP The Guru..."
Born in Jersey, Walden studied dentistry before a brief period in the US before returning to London in the 1980s where he began playing pub gigs with his band, Joshua Cries Wolf. He finally found fame between 1989 and 1990 with his breakthrough single 'Infinity' helping to shape the rising rave movement.
His album Infinity (1990s...Time for the Guru) would crack the UK top five, while he remained an active and influential member of the scene until this day.
Other music greats to pass away this week include Lemmy from Motorhead and Specials drummer John Bradbury.
