Bon Iver premiered new material at his self-curated Eaux Claires Festival in his hometown of Wisconsin.
Doubt was cast over the future of Bon Iver recently, when Justin Vernon declared in an interview that "we just have no plans for the future" but the singer trumped that over the weekend as two untitled new songs were premiered live.
The first of the two sees Vernon singing a delicate falsetto over a slow bubbling synth which churns and swells with the introduction of strings and a pattering drum beat. Whilst the second, which features English group The Staves, takes an emotional turn featuring beautiful harmonies and a country/soul backdrop.

Although there has been no scheduled tour dates, this has cast a new light on the future of the group, Vernon has expressed his focus on the Eaux Claires Festival in an interview with Grantland: "Our show is our main focus. We don’t have anything booked after this. We don’t have any plans. We’re not being secretive - we just don’t have any plans. It’s just about, Play the show and put all of our energy into one show - for once in my life, let’s just play one fucking show and care just about this one show for a goddamn change."
The festival, which also featured The National and Sufjan Stevens, took place over the weekend (18-19 July). With this focus now behind him - Vernon should be looking forward to the next step.
