Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl and Pat Smear took a self-guided driving door of Davie Bowie's LA haunts for Playboy. Watch it below.

The pair have long been admirers of Bowie, who died last month at the age of 69. Their former band, Nirvana, covered 'The Man Who Sold The World' during their MTV Unplugged session - one of Kurt Cobain's final performance before his death in 1994.

As they drove around LA, Pat Smear also spoke of the moment he and his former Germs bandmate Darby Crash saw Bowie driving in the city. "We saw Bowie driving around in a beat up old VW Bug," he told Grohl. "Eventually we found out he was here recording... We saw him get out the car and walk in, he dropped a cigarette butt, and we ran to grab it, and Darby put it in a little tiny vial thing, put it on a chain and put it round his neck."

As they drove around, Grohl also pointed out the SST superstore in which Smear was working when Kurt Cobain recruited him for Nirvana. "I remember Kurt saying, 'I've found our second guitar player'," Grohl recalled. "We're like, 'Wow, who?' 'Pat Smear from The Germs!' We were like, 'He's still alive?'"

Last week, at a pre-Grammys party, the remaining members of Nirvana were joined onstage by Beck, to perform a cover of 'The Man Who Sold The World'.
