Mastodon have had to cancel their announced performances at Reading and Leeds Festivals this August, as well as their following Europe dates.

The Atlanta based metallers have had to pull out of dates between August 7 through to September 3 including their appearances topping the bill for The Pit at Reading and Leeds.

The press release accompanying the announcement gave justification to the cancellations due to "personal family matters".

Our thoughts are with the band and we hope that they can overcome their personal obstacles and join us in Europe soon to break our ears once more.

This year's Reading and Leeds festival will be headlined by Mumford & Sons, Metallica and The Libertines.

In a recent interview, Winston Marshall from Mumford & Sons spoke about the headlining opportunity, saying: "Even if we get bottled off, even if they chuck shit at us, at least I can say we've headlined Reading and Leeds - even if we only last 10 minutes."

Reading Festival takes place in Richfield Avenue, Reading whereas Leeds Festival is situated in Bramham Park, Leeds. Both the events are happening over the weekend of Friday 28 to Sunday 30 August 2015.
