Ellie Goulding has hinted over Instagram that she's finished recording the new Bond theme for Spectre.

Sam Smith is the favourite to open the new Bond flick but has since distanced himself from the rumours saying that he had heard Goulding was performing the opening cut.

Goulding has heavily hinted her involvement in the production with a picture posted on Instagram last night (July 27). The picture sees Goulding exiting the world famous Abbey Road Studios with the caption: "It's a wrap". Abbey Road was the same studio Adele used for the Skyfall theme. See the picture below.

That's a wrap! 🙏🏼

Bookmakers William Hill have now closed betting on the identity of the artist; the odds were as follows:

Sam Smith (2/5)
Ed Sheeran (8/1)
Ellie Goulding (10/1)
Adele (12/1)
Lana Del Rey (14/1)
Lorde (16/1)
Noel Gallagher (25/1)
Coldplay (33/1)
One Direction (40/1)

  • Alex Turner: Whether it be a dirty riff-heavy release from Arctic Monkeys or a smoother, clandestine offering with Miles Kane from Last Shadow Puppets, Turner is a prime candidate for a Bond theme song. A song as smooth as the Turner himself would fit a less 'gun-blazing' Bond opening perfectly - especially

  • JayLorde: A collaboration of giants, with Jay on production and verse duties and Lorde packing a hard-hitting chorus. The New Zealand singer plumes atmosphere in the low-ranges while Jay spits about secret operative business, throw in a string section and we're talking guaranteed dynamite.

  • Josh Homme: Maybe the coolest man in all the land, if Alex Turner qualifies as suave enough for a Bond song, Homme should be able to score the whole movie. Showcasing his more sensitive and piano-led material on the latest Queens record (just check out 'The Vampyre Of Time And Memory') - Homme could bring perception and punch to the table.

  • Lana Del Rey: A popular favourite for the role of the next Bond songstress, Lana could bring some serious depth and sultry melodrama to the role. Not just a throwaway popstar, the New York singer could channel her darker side and bring out a sinister smash-hit, winning audiences globally.

  • FloRez & The Machine: An unlikely collaboration between Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor and Florence Welsh could make for the loudest Bond theme to date. Industrial beats under Florence's stadium filling vocal performance could be a combination not just great for a Bond opener, but for a full length release. Reznor is already well versed in movie soundtracks having worked on a number of recent David Fincher productions.

  • Muse: Having already declared their 2012 track 'Supremacy' an "ideal" Bond theme (not to mention the 007-ready 'Butterflies & Hurricanes' from Absolution) it's not too late for the future-rock trio. They've got the tonal versatility to create epic soundscapes or roll into a softer but darker piano ballad. The possibilities are endless with Muse and there wouldn't be a better UK band to write a song for the most iconic UK hero.

  • Elbow: Probably more mature and toned down than any of the grandiose themes that have preceded it, Garvey and Co would still do a fine job of crafting a seamless and intense opener for any Bond film will equal measures gut and heart.

  • FKA Twigs: The Bond theme song tends to be reserved for artists of already established notoriety and while Twigs is by no means 'up-and-coming', it'd be cool to see her bring her brand of mystique and sexy to the Bond aesthetic and sound.

  • Dave Sitek: Having already his expressed his interest in the position, the TV On The Radio master-producer could do a theme unlike no other with the right vocal talent. Unfortunately, he also requested Idris Elba to reprise the role of Bond and it doesn't look like that's happening any time soon because life just isn't that fair.

  • George Ezra: Ezra is such small artist to take on such a big role, that's fair enough. But his more aggressive cuts like 'Did You Hear The Rain' or 'Spectacular Rival' have the exact vengeful tone needed for a Bond theme befitting such a brutal version of the character that Daniel Craig has been portraying.
