For those with a penchant for Foals’ heavier material, you’re in for a treat. A mammoth, gravelly bassline immediately primes the tastebuds for the latest taste of the sister record to the Mercury-nominated ‘Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 1’.

After the ‘cliffhanger ending’ of Part 1, Foals do anything but pick up the stray pieces from the aftermath. Lyrically, they’re picking up where they left off, yet sonically - they’re going harder, and deeper. They’ve supercharged their sound with steroids, and reinforced it with bigger riffs and lurching hooks.

This Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost saga is a marathon, one that requires immense endurance, perseverance and strength; with ‘The Runner’, Foals have delivered the Ironman of singles.

Philippakis’ haunting vocal soars above determined buzzsaw guitar, perfectly capturing the urgency and energy of a live Foals gig, something that’s reinforced by the all-encompassing call-and-response dual vocal.

About the track, Yannis commented, “It’s a call to find a sense of purpose and perseverance despite the odds and despite the troubles we may find inside or outside ourselves.” The track was produced by Foals themselves, demonstrating how much creative control they’re exercising.

With each release, Foals further cement their creative synergy, and settle any doubt that the forthcoming album is going to be absolutely immense.

Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost - Part 2 will be unleashed on 18 October.
