Dance superstar Armand Van Helden has responded to Noel Gallagher's claims that EDM music does not belong at music festivals.

Gallagher made headlines earlier this year when he said he found it "disturbing if a dude in a hat and a pair of fake DJ decks pressing play on a CD player" could headline festivals, adding "that's quite a bleak future". It looks like Armand Van Helden doesn't agree - saying it's all a part of the cycle of youthful revolt in music.
"Any real musician is going to look at a DJ or an EDM artist and be like 'what is that and how did that even work in the first place?'" Van Helden tells Gigwise, looking forward to headlining London's Ceremony Festival next month. "If you're out there on stage and you're a drummer, a guitarist a frontman or whatever - you're a band, that's just raw talent being exposed on a stage."
He continues: "With the chemistry going on, that's just a magical moment. With a DJ or the EDM thing, they don't get it. It's a completely different thing - the youth is always supposed to piss off the elders. The youth will always find a way to make sure that their parents don't like their music. To me, EDM, dance music and DJ culture is just following in this path that we've been in forever."

Van Helden adds: "When jazz was brand new, all of the people that first heard it called it 'cacaphone' - 'that's just a bunch of noise, that's not real music'. Jazz is the music we're talking about right now. Jazz now is considered the most musical you can be."
Last week, Avicii and Deadmau5 also took at aim at Gallagher's claims.
Meanwhile, Armand Van Helden will be performing at Ceremony Festival in Finsbury Park on Saturday 12 September, where he'll be playing an exclusively 90s set.
He'll be joing throughout the day by the likes of Todd Terry, Mike Skinner, MK, Plastician, Artwork, Shiba San, The Martinez Brothers and many more. For tickets and more information, visit here.
