Both Justin Timberlake and The White House have responded to Kanye West's incredible MTV VMA speech, during which he joked that he was running for president and claimed that Justin Timberlake cried when he lost a Grammy.
West was presented with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award during Sunday night's ceremony, and he made an 11-minute speech/sermon/presidential bid in response.
During his speech, he first apologised once again to Taylor Swift - who presented him with the award - for infamously interrupting her speech back in 2009, then explained what inspires him to repeatedly take issue with award results.
"The contradiction is I do fight for artists," he explained, "but in that fight I somehow was disrespectful to artists. I didn’t know how to say the right thing, the perfect thing. I just … I sat at the Grammys and saw Justin Timberlake and Cee-Lo lose. Gnarls Barkley and the FutureLove … SexyBack album … and Justin, I ain’t trying to put you on blast, but I saw that man in tears, bro. You know, and I was thinking, like, 'He deserved to win Album of the Year!'"
Timberlake subsequently responded on Twitter by saying, "Kanye is so cute, y'all," before adding, "Jokes, you guys... Jokes. #chill." In one final tweet, he concluded, "Btw... I JUST watched my man 'Ye's FULL speech... He always has a point. And I support it. #truth"
Meanwhile, after West concluded his speech by saying, "And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president," - The White House has released a statement.
Despite the fact that it was clearly not a serious announcement, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said that they were looking "forward to seeing what slogan he chooses to embroider on his campaign hat."
We look forward to hearing who 'Ye will be choosing as his running mate. Jay-Z seems the obvious choice.
