Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has gone where no man has gone before, and shown his support for Nickelback.
In a recent interview with The Daily Show, correspondent Hasan Minhaj jokingly compared the threat of ISIS fighters breaking past the US and Canadian border as “the greatest Canadian terrorist threat since September 11, 2001 – the day Nickelback unleashed their breakthrough album 'Silverside Up' on America."
Trudeau responded to the joke saying, “You know what? Nickelback’s alright”. Skip to 7:20 to see the PM back the band.
The Canadian PM might be the first celebrity male to back the faux rockers, but he wasn’t the first celebrity to do so. Recently Avril Lavigne also defended the band, which incidentally is fronted by her ex-husband Chad Kroeger. The singer expressed her disapproval of the band’s criticism via Twitter, saying “17 #1 HIT SINGLES!!!! What an epic accomplishment!!!!@Nickelback is adored by millions worldwide !!! I've seen their sold out shows!!!”
Despite Lavigne and Trudeau supporting the band, even studies have shown how and why people hate Nickelback.
Whilst hatred for the band may be widespread across the Internet, Nickelback are nonetheless touring and are set to play a number of gigs in the UK later this year. To buy tickets and for more information, click here.
