It's starting to feel like a lifetime ago that we said 'Hello' (is that getting old yet?) to Adele's new album, 25, but it's still smashing records wherever it goes. The follow-up to 21 has become the fastest selling album in the US - just rubbing more salt into the wound for American fans disappointed that her 2016 tour is limited to the UK and Europe.
The album was released last Friday (20 November), and immediately made all sorts of UK chart history. Now, its performance in the US looks set to surpass that.
According to figures from Nielsen Music, 25 sold 3.38 million copies in the US within its first week - the most that's been recorded since records began in 1991. The album is the first, in fact, to surpass the 3 million sales mark in its first week, and only the second to even surpass 2 million.
As NME reports, the album that previously held the US record, somewhat surprisingly perhaps, was *NSYNC's No Strings Attached. It sold 2.42 million copies in a single week 15 years ago in 2000.
