Grime has been too long not appreciation as a valid artform. In its early stages it was dismissed as churlish and a gateway to hooliganism, today, it's pushed aside as overrated club music. Now, thanks to Reuben Dangoor, 2015 will be the year that grime music can be enjoyed by everyone's grandparents - in the form of a oil paintings at the Tate Britain.

Back in October, Dangoor's Instagram account got a lot of attention once people caught on with these period oil paintings of Grime artists. Portraits of Stormzy posing by fireside as his mentor Wiley is framed behind, Skepta riding gallantly on white horseback and D Double E stands to attention is full military get up.

Dangoor's original Instagram post was captioned: "Love the fact that garage and grime is starting to get the love it deserves. Starting a series painting some of the legends of the scene." Well now, Dangoor's work is getting the love is deserves manifesting itself as an exhibiton slot at London's Tate Britain.

The portraits of Skepta, Dizzee Rascal, Stormzy and more will be a part of Tate Britain’s new series that revolves around the theme of “celebrity” and also features live music from Joey Fourr and Reprezent radio. You can see more information on this 4 December event, here.
