A bit of a mishap at Spotify HQ

In today’s odder news, one of Taylor Swift's most popular songs briefly resurfaced on Spotify with the track credited to convicted paedophile Ian Watkins and his former band, Lostprophets.

This blunder comes after 1989 superstar Swift pulled her music from the streaming service in protest over their royalties.

‘I Knew You Were Trouble’ from 2012’s Red album had been live on Spotify for three days and racked up almost 40 million hits. Charting as the top Lostprophets song on the band’s profile, the track had no clear attribution to its actual artist, Taylor Swift. The artwork was an edited image of a cartoon combined with the Lostprophets logo.

After discovering the error, The Guardian contacted Spotify, who then removed the track from the application. But this isn’t the only version of the Lostprophets-credited song to appear online. The same track was uploaded to YouTube in October by user Jared Brown, who has posted other falsely labelled tracks to his profile.

Watch the video, tagged as “the last song” Lostprophets ever recorded, below:

A spokesperson for Spotify said the company was looking into the “very weird” situation.
