After Deadmau5 went on a Twitter and Facebook rant slamming social media part way through his live tour, the producer has taken to Tumblr to apologise, and blame the outbursts on "depression issues."
In a series of tweets which have since been deleted (he also suspended his account), Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman, wrote, "considering killing off the 'deadmau5' bullshit and just start something new. did it before, can do it again. fuck it. why not."
He then moved onto Facebook, and wrote, "fuck 'social media'. the only thing it’s useful for is promoting, advertising, and more advertising. As far as being a human being on social media, forget about it. you’re just another number we can all add into our little follower count, that ultimately adds up to NOTHING i require to make music.
"So, ill [sic] just leave this shit for management to pump out advertisements and promotions just like the rest of the sheep. ive got some fences to jump."
He's since restored his social media pages though, and taken to Tumblr to write, "Like many other human beings, I’ve been dealing with some depression issues that i don’t need to go into detail with. Id [sic] consider myself far from emotionally stable, though, not unstable enough to know support when i see it."
He continued, "Deactivating social media for a minute has nothing at all to do with popstars or dubstep tryhards. It was a kneejerk reaction to something i saw coming a long time ago. Also, nobodies business but my own.
"id like to apologize to my fans and supporters for fucking off so abruptly, and leaving them out of the loop in terms of developments in my career and some small glimpes into my personal life…. ill resume that program for you."
