As a crowd gathers around David Bowie's Brixton mural, thousands of people are expected to attend a last-minute street party in tribute to the iconic musician, after news of his death emerged today.
Just days after releasing new album Blackstar on his 69th birthday, Bowie died yesterday after an 18-month battle with cancer - one he had deliberately kept secret from the public. Since the news broke, a crowd has gathered by a mural in Brixton - the area of London in which he was born and spent the early years of his life.

Now, a street party outside The Ritzy in Brixton tonight - set up on Facebook just a few hours ago - has 2,400 people attending, and a further 4,000 interested. "bowie's time on this earth may be over," reads the event description, "but he sure left us some great music. today is a day to gather together and celebrate.
"please share with anyone you think would be able to help with music or any other element of this event - bring instruments, speakers, food and most importantly love."
The event is scheduled to begin at 7pm tonight (11 January) and will no doubt go on until the early hours of the morning. Let's dance.
