Metallica have been named official Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2016, taking the baton from Dave Grohl, who was given the honour last year.
James Hetfield, Robert Trujillo, Kirk Hammett and Lars Ulrich uploaded an official video explaining their involvement for the event, which takes place on 16 April, and in the video, they discuss their position as lifelong supporters of record stores and indie retail.
They detail the important role record stores played in them discovering the music they love. Notably, Lars Ulrich - who is in witty form in the video - states that the primary reason he's in Metallica is because of the seeds that were sown in the record stores he visited as a youth.
In addition to being the ambassadors, the band will be releasing remastered version of Kill 'EM All and Ride The Lightning which they recorded when the late, great Cliff Burton was on bass. The albums will be available on vinyl, CD, and in a deluxe box set. Each box set includes the CD and vinyl, as well as a deluxe booklet, full live concerts, demos, rough mixes as well as the Jump In The Fire, and Creeping Death picture disc EP's.
Metallica's support for Record Store Day is a noble gesture. As one of the biggest bands in the world, they have an important role in sustaining the recent surge in vinyl sales.
Meanwhile, Metallica will commemorate the terrorist attack at France’s Bataclan venue with the release of a live album recorded there in 2003. The record is called Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite, Metallica! and it will be released on Record Store Day. All proceeds from the release will be donated to the Give For France Fund.
