A long-awaited return for Metallica looks to be over for fans as the band’s drummer, Lars Ulrich, announces that the next album is “pretty close”.
This will be the first new Metallica material since the band’s 2008 album, Death Magnetic. Ulrich told Vulture magazine that he believes the album will be out before the year’s end. He then confirmed that the band should be done with it by this spring.
Ulrich said: “There's a record coming at some point, in the future. Not soon enough, but we are pretty close”. He continued, "Unless something drastic happens, it will come out this year.
“We should be done with it this spring.” Then he simply said, “I don't know what else to say — there's no title yet, there's a bunch of songs, it sounds like Metallica, it's all good!"
The band recently made a live return. Metallica teamed up with Motorhead’s guitarist, Phil Campbell, to form a supergroup called Mass Mental. Mass Mental were formed in 1998 by Metallica bassist, Robert Trujillo.
