More about: Jack White
Jack White and Third Man Records are gearing up to make vinyl history yet again, by sending a turntable into orbit to play records in space.
The label of the White Stripes turned solo icon has previously broken boundaries by their ever-more innovative vinyl releases, but will now be celebrating their 7th anniversary by playing the first phonographic record in space.
They'll be sending a gold-plated 12” master of Carl Sagan’s 'A Glorious Dawn' aboard the Icarus Craft, which will be the 3millionth record that they've pressed. It will be sent in a custom-built “space-proof” turntable attached to a high-altitude balloon designed by Kevin Carrico.
It will be taking place on 30 July and Third Man Records will be holding special launch events as well as selling special tickets, merchandise, vinyl pressings and more. For more information, visit here.
Meanwhile, Jack White recently became an ambassador for Gender Equality in Nashville. Read his full and inspirational speech here.
