New Zealand-born electro pop singer Madeline North, aka So Below, has put out a vitalising remix of her love song ‘Sleep&rsquo, which is off the Remixed EP that is out this Friday (16 Sep). You can listen to it first on Gigwise below.
Taking the simple dark electronic laptop arrangement of her first mix as a starting point, XY&O have transformed the cut into something with far more atmospheric with nods to POLIÇA.
It starts gently with a dark, soulful reverb-soaked pop vocal accompanied by a minimal swirling soundscape. The percussion gradually builds as a funky bassline contrasts with a complex, moody, glacial soundscape.
At the end of the cut, XY&O take North’s increasingly emotional vocal take an compliment the intensity by manipulating it into an echoing sound effect alongside the soaring eletronic wall of sound. It shows the flexibility of North as a versatile vocalist who is equally adapatable to EDM as she is pop.
