A couple who love The Courteeners and all the bands supporting them at the Old Trafford Cricket Ground in May next year have forked out £3,000 for 67 tickets to hold their wedding reception there.
Trading in your typical wedding DJ for one of the biggest indie party’s in Manchester next year, mega-fans Abby Turner, 28 and Pete Richards, 35, told Manchester Evening News, it is their ‘Dream line up’
The event means so much to them that the Stockport couple, who met seven years ago, have brought forward the ceremony as they originally planed to have it in Italy in 2019.
Abby Turner explained why exactly The Courteeners means so much: "We absolutely love them. They were the first band we went to see together, at the G-Mex back in 2009. And that’s the main thing we do together. We love live music and going to gigs. So when we saw it announced we both said it just had to be part of our day.
"We love all four of the bands. In fact if you asked us to pick our dream line-up this would be it."
Of the plans for the day she added: “We’re going to have an early morning ceremony somewhere then head off to the gig all in our wedding gear. We’ve basically booked the best wedding entertainment you could ask for. I’ve not picked my dress yet but I’ll definitely still be wearing it. I might take some flat shoes though. We’re going to try and book a bar or something for a party afterwards as well. We’ve not got long to organise everything but we can’t wait. It’s going to be unbelievable
The gig held on 27 May 2017, is a meeting of established mainstream and breakthrough talent. The Courteeners, and The Charlatans have long been a brilliant soundtrack to people's lives - and have especially strong followings in their home city of Manchester. But Blossoms have only recently broken through from a hotly-tipped little band to one of the country's most talked about, thanks, largely, to the huge amount of radio play their hit single 'Charlemagne' has had.
Meanwhile, Cabbage, who are the lesser known band on the bill, are making some promising moves towards becoming a massive band thanks to their electrifying live shows. Check out an interview we did with them here about some of the world's most evil leaders and other things.
