‘Are You With Me Now?’ hitmaker Cate Le Bon and Deerhunter's Brandon Cox have detailed a quickly worked EP coming out via Mexican Summer on 1 November.

Titled Myths 004,- it's the fourth release of Mexican Summer's cult Myths series, following Dev Hynes and Connan Mockasin, Ariel Pink and Weyes Blood, and Dungen and Woods.

The lead track features Cate Le Bon on vocals mostly, while Brandon Cox comes in towards the end with spoken word.

The track has been interpreted by the label to be a two-and-a-half-minute paean to bored office workers everywhere, with surreal lyrics: “mascara brushed across the plains / all of the phone calls you made disconnected.”

Written and recorded in a week in Marfa, a beautiful small art town in west Texas close to the Mexican border, the environment was a productive one to be in.

“Marfa is an extraordinary town. It feels like nothing else exists when you’re in it which is both comforting and unnerving,” says Le Bon. “We committed ourselves to embracing the chaos, surrendering to all moments and moods that travelled through. It’s a crude holiday scrapbook shared by all involved, an amalgamation of the changes in mood and light that shaped the days.”

The EP is said to be a snapshot of the pair’s very first meeting in 2018 after years of admiring each other’s work from afar. And in the companion film to this EP, where  Le Bon is on a chair making workshop in Marfa this year, Brandon Cox speaks of them becoming friends off the bat. Subsequently, they have developed a fruitful working relationship:  Le Bon co-produced Deerhunter's remarkable new album, Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared?; and the pair are heading out on UK tour together, where, hopefully, they’ll find time outside of their own sets to play some of the songs from Myths 004 live?
