Former Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr aren’t ones to rest on their laurels in the autumn of the years. Instead of putting their feet up or pottering around in the their allotments or playing with the grandchildren, the Fab Four’s rhythm section have been working on fresh material for Ringo Starr’s new album.
The grammatically challenged drumming legend tweeted yesterday: “Thanks for coming over man and playing Great bass. I love you man peace and love.”
Continuing in the same haphazard fashion, he also added that his brother-in-law, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, dropped by as well, tweeting: “And look out Joe W. came out to play what a day I’m having peace and love.”
Bruce Sugar, who’s engineered Ringo’s recent albums, could barely contain his excitement as he took to Facebook to exclaim: “Magical day in the studio with these two…”
The erstwhile Beatles last worked together on Ringo Starr’s Y Not album in 2010 when McCartney played bass on ‘Peace Dream’ and sang on ‘Walk With You’.
Recalling McCartney’s vocal contribution to ‘Walk With You’, Sugar told Billboard that the bassist declined to play his instrument and instead elected to sing: “Me and Ringo just looked at each other and offered up the mic. And he just came up with that part, which was just brilliant. It made the whole song, really. So the song was done, but his vocals were after the song was done. It was great.”
