Taylor Swift has reportedly filed the paperwork needed to own the name Swifties for a website that will feature streaming and merchandise.
The claim stems from TMZ, who said the proposed site will feature "non-downloadable multi-media content in the nature of audio recordings," - which sounds a lot like a streaming service. If the source is accurate, the move could see Swift making a bold statement that would take the profits of streaming her music out of the likes of Apple, Tidal and Spotify's hands and into her own.
The idea shows burly independence and reflects her discontent toward streaming companies. In 2015 she said it was "shocking and disappointing" that Apple didn't pay artist for any content streamed during a trial perio. She was listened to and her relationship with the company has grown as she featured in an ad with them. Moreover, in 2014 she removed her entire back catalogue from Spotify in a protest over royalties.
The merch side of it will include guitars, guitar picks, guitar straps and drumsticks apparantly. Meanwhile TMZ also say "Her plans also include organizing retreats, educational camps and self-guided online courses."
Swifts representative are yet to comment on the leak.
Elsewhere, Swift netted herself over $170 million (£137 million) in 2016 becoming top of the female rich list on Forbes. She made more than Adele who 'only' made pulled in £65 million.
The figures are amazing due to the fact that for the most of 2016 the artist was on holiday with her then boyfriend Tom Huddleston. A few endorsements including one with Coca Cola seem to be bringing in the big bucks.
