For the event which translates to "everything's going to hell", the band will perform in Eldborg, Harpa’s main hall, on December 27, 28, 29 and 30. These will be the first shows by the band in Iceland in five years, and their most intimate since the tiny regional shows on the Heima tour more than a decade ago.
Fans from all over the world are expected to descend on the Icelandic capital for the dazzling performances over the six days (26 - 31 December) which will provide welcome distraction from the short days you find at that time of year close to the Arctic Circle.
In addition to a musical performances from Sigur Rós, other bands are expected to join them and there will be art installations, dance pieces, film screenings, spoken word and impromptu happenings, many of them featuring the extended network of friends and collaborators.
Meanwhile, Sigur Rós are currently teasing new music on tour but are yet to reveal details of their forthcoming eighth studio album. ‘Óveður' is the only properly recorded new track out so far - and that was released nearly a year ago. They're taking their time with this one for reasons unknown to us, but chances are they're just perfecting a masterpiece.
Tickets to the forthcoming event in Reykjavik with Sigur Rós will be strictly limited to two per customer and released by proof of ID. Tickets will go on sale to public on Monday 15 May but it is recommended you sign up here for the pre-sale which is happening on 12 May.
