'Burning Cars' is the sound of adolescent alienation in small British rural towns

Carl Barât and The Jackals have recorded of the rock cuts of the year so far with 'Burning Cars' and now have a video to go with it

It's a massively well-recorded track taken from the Harder They Fall EP which was produced by Olly Burden (The Prodigy) and raises the bar in terms of what live bands can achieve at the studio. There's dirty desert rock guitars, unmistakably cool vocals, and tasteful overdubs that make it like a guitar and drums orchestra with many ideas swimming around but all cohesively adding up to make something special, and show that this is no meek side project, and taht the Jackals are a force to be reckoned with.

The video was directed by Carl Barât and filmed and edited by Roger Sargent. Barât adds “We (The Jackals) grew up in small British rural towns and all felt alienated with no sense of belonging. The videos for ‘Sister’ and 'Burning Cars’ allude to that feeling of being - isolated, lonely and trapped and for a lot of people that’s the way it is.” The video features a cast of friends, including new band The Skinner Brothers, who hail from Carl’s home town, Basingstoke.

For the uninitiated Carl Barat and The Jackals formed after Barât was formed in 2014 when he decided to use Facebook to reach out to people who wanted to be in a band with him. From over 1000 applications for the positions of rhythm guitarist, drummer and bass guitar, Billy Tessio, Jay Bone and Adam Claxton were chosen, respectively after successful auditions at South East London's best rock venue, The Amersham Arms.
