Beyonce may well be on maternity leave following the birth of twins but that didn’t stop her becoming one of the big winners at the BET (Black Entertainment Television) Awards last night (June 25).

Having been nominated for seven awards, she had to make do with five of them, including Album Of The Year for her sixth studio album, Lemonade, Video Of The Year for ‘Sorry’ – shared with Bruno Mars’ ‘24K Magic’ - and Best Female R&B/Pop Artist. She also nabbed Video Director Of The Year with Kahil Jospeh for ‘Sorry’ and also the Viewers’ Choice Award.

Unable to attend the ceremony, her protégés, Chloe x Halle, accepted the awards on her behalf and read out a statement in which Beyonce thanked her family and friends for their support.

She said: “Thank you BET for this award and your tremendous support of Lemonade. This has been a journey of love, of celebrating our culture, honoring the past, and approaching the present and future with hope and resolve,” Bey said in the letter.

“Thank you to my mother Tina Knowles-Lawson for being my biggest, biggest teacher and consistent influence. Thank you to my entire family for so much love. To my team at Parkwood, thank you. And thanks to all the fans, my Beyhive, for riding with me. I love and appreciate you. And to everyone at the show tonight, you all look so beautiful. And at home, thank you, and have a wonderful, wonderful night. From, Beyonce.”

Other award recipients included Bruno Mars for Video of the Year (‘24K Magic’) and Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Chance the Rapper (Best New Artist), Migos (Best Group), Kendrick Lamar (Best Male Hip Hop Artist), Solange - 'Cranes in the Sky' (BET Centric Award) and Remy Ma (Best Female Hip Hop Artist).
