Royal Blood tickets have proved so popular that they are now going to play three gigs in Alexandra Palace.

The first two shows at the 10,000 capacity North London venue sold out, and a third is likely to go quickly.

Spurring demand for tickets is their hugely successful Glastonbury performance that undoubtedly will have helped them in their bid to one day headline this stage. The band's day went from great to greater when the second album How Did We Get So Dark? shot to number one.

Frontman Mike Kerr received thunderous applause when he paused the show to announce the news as he and drummer Ben Thatcher celebrated the moment by cracking open some champagne.

Outside of the UK, How Did We Get So Dark? has already hit the Top 10 in seven other territories In the US, the album has entered at #25 on the Billboard Top 200.

This rise is an incredibly quick thing, too. At the start of 2014 Royal Blood were a little-known support band for Interpol as part of the NME Awards tour where Temples and Circa Waves also played. A few months later, and largely thanks to relentless play on the radio of their single 'Out Of The Black', their humungous rock sound was beginning to win them plaudits far and wide.

Their debut album out August 2014 went to number one in the UK charts, but this new album getting number one is a much bigger achievement because they pipped Lorde to the top spot. This is something they certainly wouldn't have expected given her huge global following.

Another turn for the books is having one of the world's greatest ever live guitar bands, At The Drive In, support Royal Blood. The band told NME in a video interview: "They are the hot girl at school who said 'yes, I will come to the prom with you."

Also on the tour are one of UK indie rock's brightest hopes, Black Honey. The remaining tickets to Royal Blood's tour are on sale now
