Pearl Jam fans are in for a bumper day following the announcement that the band are to release the live film, Let’s Play Two, as well as the film soundtrack on CD and vinyl on September 29. And they’ve just released the trailer that you can watch below.
The concert film documents the grunge veterans’ two performances at the Wrigley Field baseball park - which is the home of the Chicago Cubs – in 2016. The concerts were shot during the Chicago Cubs’ championship season – the club’s first World Series championship in 108 years.
Danny Clinch, who was responsible for Pearl Jam’s 2007 concert film, Immagine In Cornice, has directed Let’s Play Two. It’s fair to say that Pearl Jam live movies come around a lot more often than the World Series does for the Chicago Cubs. The film catches the band in action as they perform career-spanning sets all the way from Ten through to Lightning Bolt as well as non-album tracks such as ‘Black Red Yellow’, ‘Crazy Mary’ and a cover of The Beatles’ ‘I Got A Feeling’.
"In my films and photographs, I love to explore the relationship between a band, their fans and the location," Clinch said in a statement. "When it happens that the main characters of your film are Pearl Jam, the Chicago Cubs, their fans, and Wrigley Field during a historic moment, you know it's going to be epic. Our instincts were correct to follow the story and it took us to a historic Game 7 of the World Series ending a 108-year drought for the Cubs. I have learned to welcome the unexpected and it always pays off if you’re ready for it."
The gigs were of special significance for Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. The singer is a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and he grew up on the outskirts of Chicago.
