Walt Disco have dropped a new track, ‘Dancing Shoes’. This latest release sees the Glaswegians team up with the English roses Sports Team and their label Holm Front, who will be releasing the single on vinyl. The stunning cover image from Dylan Moore is a piece of art in itself, and gives a taste of the creative spirit and ingenuity that seem to radiate from this band.
Draping a shimmering gold cut of fabric over his bare legs, frontman James Potter elegantly embodies the sonics of this track. With each release, Walt Disco are building upon their reputation for their explosive singles that seem to skyrocket with each release.
‘Dancing Shoes’ takes things up a gear once more. With a solid bedrock of sci-fi sounding synths, strutting guitar and colossal drums, Potter’s vocal scintillates and shimmers, and he wields it like a weapon to powerful and evocative effect, combined with haunting harmonies that further propel this track forwards to being arguably the best track they’ve released. A stand out in their live sets, it seems the band have been holding on to this single for over a year, waiting for the right moment to unleash it to their ever burgeoning fanbase.
“I wrote ‘Dancing Shoes’ about a year and a half ago," Potter notes. "It was during a time in my life where I was really struggling to deal with noticing pain and depression within my immediate family and found it difficult to talk about, so I used the writing of this song as therapy. It is very sad but I feel better now it’s written and hope others can take comfort from the song too.”
They’re among a vital wave of bands who have been cultivating something special that has been lacking in British guitar music. They’re creating space for something that is truly aside from the lager-cradling, beer-bellied lads who boisterously mosh along to dull guitar riffs. What Walt Disco are doing is shining a spotlight onto something far bigger - onstage, they reflect that light, and send shards of light bouncing off the walls like a disco ball. A Walt Disco ball.
An underground movement that seems to tremble and shudder from the very monitors out, Walt Disco fulfil both the sonic appetite of both the muso-connoisseur and those who just purely love a brilliantly written pop track. The gates are opening up in front of Walt Disco, and the next opportunities are theirs for the taking.
Dancing Shoes Won’t Fix My Mind is released today (24 September), on 7" vinyl and digitally via Holm Front Records.
