New band Into The Ark have revealed a harmonious 60s/70’s Cali-folk-tinged new single awash with sun-kissed melodies and tightly-locked harmonies.
The song was produced and co-written by the mega Rich Turvey, who’s production work has played a huge role in catapulting Blossoms from indie outsiders to mainstream juggernauts.
Turvey's work with on the latest Coral album seems to have played an influence with drums similarly cranked to the forefront of the mix, giving it a tight visceral feel. Moreover, subtle layers of strings and minimal backing vocals add colour and give a beautiful depth of field in the music that's led by a commanding vocal performance.
The band are managed by Paolo Nutini’s manger, who’s definitely no stranger at recognising huge talent early. Sir Tom Jones – their friends and mentor – he as invited them to tour the US with him in Spring/Summer 2018.
They started out busking in Cardiff before spending two years cutting about in a splitter van all around the UK, playing in whatever venue would have them. This time spent grafting has clearly paid off and has been a source of inspiration in their writing – this new song is only their third ever single and is an ode to their early days in the band before big shows and radio plays started coming in.
The first two ‘My Ghost’ and ‘Brightest Creatures’ were produced by Declan Gaffney and Barry Gorey (Adele , U2). But having Rich Turvey involved is definitely a strong way forward, for the band, There’s no question he’s one of the best new producers in the country at present.
The band release their music on their own label Blackwood Records in conjunction with Kartel Music Group, who work doing press for Colin Stetson among others.
Into The Ark are playing some venues in October:
18 - The Garage, London
21 - The Tramshed, Cardiff
