'A gorgeous yet faintly creepy piece of exotic lounge music'

Insecure Men - the band led by Fat White Family’s Saul Adamczewski and - it says here - his schoolmate and stabilising influence, Ben Romans-Hopcraft have unveiled ‘Subaru Nights’, their first “official” track since signing to Fat Possum Records.

So who are the Insecure Men? The band was formed by Saul and Ben Romans-Hopcraft and Fat White Family’s Nathan Saoudi in 2015. The group then settled around Saul (vocals/guitar) and Ben (bass/backing vocals).

Original lapsteel player Sean Lennon has now been replaced by Marley Mackey (Dirty Harrys) who is the son of Pulp’s Steve Mackey. Victor Jakeman (Claw Marks) plays the organ; Joe Isherwood (We Smoke Fags) plays keyboards and saxophonist Alex White is on a temporary transfer from Fat White Family.

Arguably, the lynch pin is a mysterious South London music teacher known only as Steely Dan, who plays vibraphone and steel drums. Oh, and Saul’s old pal, Jack Everett (Fat White Family, Warmduscher) holds down the drums.

As for ‘Subaru Nights’, the track is a gorgeous yet faintly creepy piece of exotic lounge music that feels like it could soundtrack the kind of suburban dinner party where the neighbours from number six down the road are murdered and then later served up to that nice couple from number 11. And just like that scenario, it sounds tasty to us!

The band have also announced four dates. Insecure Men play:

OCTOBER

21 - Bristol, The Sportsman Club
27 - Amsterdam, Paradiso, NL

NOVEMBER

08 - London, Scala
12 - Utrecht, Le Guess Who? Festival, BE
