‘White Mustang’, the third single off Lana Del Rey’s uncharacteristically cheerily titled Lust For Life LP (which debuted at number one on the Billboard chart), recalls the glacial, downtempo fug of her 2011 breakthrough hit 'Video Games'.

Portentous piano and swirling pads are given something of a 2017 zhush with EDM hi-hats, and her trademark mournful hippy-child-marooned-in-the-nasty-modern-world lyrics (slippin' on my dress in soft filters / Everybody said you're a killer / I couldn't stop the way I was feeling the day / your record dropped) tell the tale of a doomed romance with a buff male rockstar.

Brooding Icelandic actor Eðvarð Egilsson plays the part mutely yet with with distinction, putting up with sad-eyed Del Rey throughout the 4:41 track, from the opening shot of her straddling his recumbent form in a futuristic CGI Beverley Hills mansion, to the closing moments of her driving around Los Angeles.

In a bold stylistic move the track cuts out halfway through, making way for a piped-in Mariachi style trumpet riff as we see Del Ray cruising the boulevards of near-future LA in a gleaming (you guessed it) White Mustang.

This release follows similarly well-shot clips for 'Love' and the track ‘Lust for Life’ which features the Weeknd).

The Lust For Life album, Lana Del Ray’s fifth, also includes collaborations with A$AP Rocky ('Summer Bummer', 'Groupie Love'), Stevie Nicks ('Beautiful People Beautiful Problems') and Sean Ono Lennon ('Tomorrow Never Came').
