South London’s Phobophobes have shared their new single, ‘Where Is My Owner’, an announced details of a single launch at Corsica Studios on 3 October .
“Where Is My Owner’ was recorded and produced by the band at The Windmill in Brixton where they also rehearse and have played alongside the likes of Shame, Goat Girl, Meatraffle and Fat White Family.
It’s certainly a massive statement of intent from the band and it’s their best-produced record to date. The sound is bigger and fatter than anything they’ve released before. The drums are bigger, the keyboards are positively spooky and the guitars jangles with menace as singer Jamie Taylor drawls, “Where is my owner? I thought that I came with one.”
Somewhat cryptically, the accompanying press release states that 'Where Is My Owner' is the first piece of new material to surface from a forthcoming full-length project from Phobophobes. Quite what that project will be is anybody’s guess but we await with baited breath.
Phobophobes have been noticed in all the right places with all the right people. They’ve toured with Fat White Family, appeared at the Liverpool International Festival Of Psychedelia and have received radio support from the likes of Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music and the folk at Radio X.
Doubtless we’ll be hearing more from Phobophobes and this is as good a taster as we could hope from them.
