Michael Eavis Plans To Expand Glastonbury's Capacity by 25,000
Glastonbury boss Michael Eavis says he wants to expand this year’s festival with an extra 25,000 tickets potentially going on sale.
The dairy farmer also has his sights on creating a new entertainment area which will increase the amount of parking and camping space.
In all, the site is being expanded by a further 100 acres which Eavis hopes will help cope with the possible 137,500 revellers at Worthy Farm.
Mr Eavis said: "It seems such a huge success and we have so much room here that we will be using a lot of the neighbouring farmers' land - it's an alternative land use which in the present climate is good news.
"We are extending the site with another 100 acres, bringing the total to 1,200, going west towards Glastonbury."
He also revealed that the extra tickets would be sold as combined coach and festival tickets to ensure that there isn’t any extra cars on the road.
Stringent security measures are also being put into place over the tickets, with each ticket bearing a photograph of the person who bought and registered it.
Eavis told the Western Daily Press: The people who buy the tickets on April 1 will be the people who are actually coming to the festival."
This year’s Glastonbury Festival will take place on the weekend of June 22-24.
