Glastonbury looks set for an interrupted run until 2010 after organisers applied for a licence to run the event for at least four more years.
News laws recently brought into place mean that the festival now need only apply for a single licence, the latest application is for a capacity of 177,500 people.
Mendip District Council will now gather the opinions of relevant local bodies, businesses and residents before making its final decision on March 26.
That is just one week before tickets go on sale, though fans must register on the official website before February 28 to be in with a chance of buying them.
Already confirmed for this year’s event are Arctic Monkeys, Bjork and The Who.
